Our product is a system for frequency and time synchronisation. The challenge is to develop a marketing strategy for this deep tech product utilizing market research, trend analysis, and competitor evaluations.
Initial Problem Description
Our product is based on a new technology for time and frequency synchronisation (-> see Context). The team should develop a strategy to place our product on the market. To this the team should analyse which products are already available on the market, how these products perform and where the market is heading. The team should identify customers for the product and typical fields of application.
Context
Time and frequency synchronisation is an essential part of our daily lives, without the large public being aware of it. All digital aspects alone are enabled by a precise time synchronisation. The applications range from vehicle navigation to surveying, geodetic and scientific applications. Also, GNSS-based timing services plays a key role for the synchronisation of terrestrial and satellite telecommunication networks, power grids, banking and financial transactions.
Our product uses a novel technology for time and frequency synchronisation. It was originally developed for space applications, but it is likewise suitable for terrestrial applications. This study will focus on terrestrial applications.
There is a broad spectrum of technologies for frequency/time synchronisation in terms of accuracy, performance and cost. Our technology is a cost effective solution for the high end range.
Connection to cross-cutting areas
With increasing digitalisation, the requirements for high-precision time/frequency synchronisation are becoming ever more stringent and the need for cost-effective solutions is growing. For example, precise synchronisation is important in order to record and transfer data bits correctly.
In Industry 4.0, the synchronisation of networked processes and machines is an essential component for reliable control and automation.
Input
As input, the team will receive a detailed description of our technology and performance of our products. The team will also receive a general introduction to the field of frequency and time synchronisation in order to gain the basic technical understanding necessary for market analysis. This introduction will take place during the kick-off meeting.
We offer the team a weekly JF to provide them with the best possible support during the challenge.

The team should have a basic technical understanding; specific knowledge of time/frequency synchronisation is not required. The team should also have a good knowledge of business administration, sales and marketing. A valuable quality is a high level of motivation and curiosity to analyze a new topic.
