Desired outcome

We aim to enhance and develop new solutions incorporating Microsoft’s latest IT technologies. In the initial phase, these upgrades will support the necessary digitalization for planning and tracking order flow across processes within our existing platform.

Initial Problem Description

We seek to integrate Microsoft’s cutting-edge technologies to enhance the existing platform. Key applications include:

HoloLens: Utilized in manufacturing processes, allowing real-time monitoring of Power BI data on buffer status within Microsoft HoloLens.
Digital Twins: Provides a digital production overview, enabling real-time buffer status tracking via Power BI within the platform.
Microsoft Fabric: Serves as a data repository for graphical and other essential data.

AI Capabilities:
- Calculates initial inventory levels based on ADU (Average Daily Usage) for Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI).
- Determines average production rates for identical parts to support Make-to-Order (MTO) operations.

Context

Microsoft Fabric, in conjunction with Power BI, will be leveraged for a new approach to data and file storage. During the first phase, the system will determine whether to fully implement Fabric or use only specific layout functionalities for HoloLens and Power BI integration.

Phase 1 Goals:

Copilot:
- Automates the creation of customized reports within Power BI (Herbie.IoT).
- Generates tailored simulations via the “What If” module.

Microsoft Azure:
- Tests the integration of diverse data sources within OneLake.
- Evaluate data storage from IoT sensors, AI models, and multiple cloud sources for comprehensive dashboarding in Power BI.

Following a successful first phase, we will proceed with additional enhancements in Phase 2.

Connection to cross-cutting areas

This initiative aligns with Industry 4.0 and digital transformation. Our objective is to upgrade existing platform functionalities—built on Power BI and SharePoint (Microsoft 365)—to improve data connectivity and accessibility across IoT sensors, cloud platforms, process layouts, and production blueprints. Microsoft Fabric, Azure, AI, and Copilot will enable these improvements.

Input

There are many software solutions available globally utilizing these principles, but most operate as standalone software packages. Microsoft has already applied similar methodologies within its Supply Chain solutions for the Microsoft Store. Our challenge is to integrate these advanced capabilities within the platform, leveraging Microsoft Azure for a modern, scalable platform.

Expectations

We aim to acquire expertise and Microsoft applications that facilitate the integration of Azure, AI, Fabric, and Copilot into the platform. These enhancements will broaden the scope of the platform, making it more accessible to new clients. It will expand for us the possibility of using the portal for desired new business users.

Desired Team Profile

We seek individuals with specialized knowledge in Microsoft Azure, Copilot, Fabric, AI, HoloLens, and Digital Twins to contribute to the upgrade of the platform.
As these are emerging, open-oriented platforms within Microsoft, they present an exciting challenge for students and academics. Many of these technologies were officially introduced at this year’s Microsoft Ignite conference, further highlighting their cutting-edge potential.

Additional Information

A designated contact person will provide continuous support, sharing relevant data, insights, and analyses to facilitate well-informed decision-making. Regular feedback will be delivered promptly and constructively, helping to refine strategies, optimize processes, and explore innovative new directions.
