Our company would like to develop further, the next stage of development is the implementation of modern digital technologies in order to increase efficiency, automation and control over production processes.

Initial Problem Description

The implementation of production digitalization is associated with various challenges that can delay the process or increase its costs. The first problem is the high initial cost, i.e. the purchase of modern systems and technologies and integration with existing solutions. Often, companies cannot afford to finance investments from their own funds. The second problem is the complexity of integration, i.e. combining new digital systems with older solutions and the need to adapt the IT infrastructure.

Context

One of the main challenges in implementing the digitalization of production is the high financial outlays that must be incurred at the beginning of the process. Implementation of technologies such as ERP systems, MES, etc. requires investment in new devices, sensors, software and IT infrastructure. Our machine park includes older machines that are not compatible with modern digital systems, so in such a case it is necessary to adapt them through additional interfaces or modernize the equipment. As a microenterprise, we are not able to finance the investment from our own funds, so we would like to use external sources of financing, subsidies, etc.

Digitalization of production is a key element of Industry 4.0. Industry 4.0 is the concept of the fourth industrial revolution, which is based on the use of modern digital technologies to automate and optimize production processes. Digitalization of production fits perfectly into the trend, because it involves the implementation of IoT systems, data analysis, automation and integration of IT systems in order to increase the efficiency, flexibility and quality of production.

In order for students to better solve our task, we will need to present some important information about our company.
Our company is a micro-enterprise operating in the plastics processing industry, we specialize in the service production of plastic products made using injection technology. For years, we have been successfully fulfilling orders for various industrial sectors, delivering high-quality plastic details. Our activity is based on precision, experience and flexibility in adapting to customer needs.

The production plant is located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, which allows us to efficiently handle both local and national orders. Thanks to the company's intimate structure, we make decisions quickly and effectively, which translates into efficient project implementation and an individual approach to each client. We currently have six injection molding machines with clamping forces ranging from 20 to 175 tons. Our machinery includes both older injection molding machines and newer machines, which allows us to fulfill a wide range of orders.
Our machines are:
• Two older injection molding machines from 1992 and 1994, which still fulfill their function, but require increasingly frequent maintenance and are energy-intensive.
• Three machines from 2002, 2007 and 2008, which still provide stable production and good quality products.
• The most modern injection molding machine from 2018, which is distinguished by its high efficiency and energy efficiency.

Aware of the growing market requirements and technological progress, we are constantly investing in the development of our plant. This year we plan to replace one of the older machines with a modern electric machine, which will increase our efficiency, improve production precision and allow for energy savings.As a company operating in a dynamically developing industry, we place great emphasis on the modernization of production processes and the introduction of innovative solutions. Our goal is not only to maintain competitiveness, but also to improve the quality of services and production efficiency. Through digitalization and modern technologies, we aim to optimize production processes, monitor raw material consumption, and implement solutions that increase automation. We believe that further technological advancements will not only boost our efficiency but also improve the environmental standards of our production.

Expectations

First of all, developing a solution that could be realistically implemented in the company. Indicating what processes in the company can be automated or improved. What are the available sources of financial support (EU grants, government programs, investment funds). What are the possible requirements for obtaining funding.

Indicating several offers from companies providing software (proposing specific technological tools). Developing an implementation schedule.
