Initial Problem Description

The concrete problem is to optimize the ReSoil® website for better performance, visibility, and user engagement, addressing key technical and design challenges. The current site requires improvements in loading speed, mobile-friendliness, and user experience to meet modern standards. A new CMS needs to be implemented to streamline page creation and simplify content management. The overall design and layout must be cleaned up and enhanced to improve visual appeal and usability, establishing consistent branding through cohesive colors, UI/UX design, and integration of the new logo across all subpages. Performance issues such as site speed and responsiveness need to be fixed, and a robust SEO strategy must be developed to boost Google rankings and increase visibility. Additionally, tracking tools like Google Analytics and Hotjar should be integrated for user behavior insights, with personalized email signatures created for team members to ensure consistent branding in communications.

A critical aspect of the challenge involves merging the new website with the existing domain name and hosting, ensuring a seamless transition without disrupting traffic or search engine rankings. Internal linking and on-page SEO require enhancement, along with a cohesive social media strategy aligned with the new content. The website's Google My Business profile and local SEO also need to be optimized. Finally, flexibility must be provided for additional design needs to support the project's evolving goals, creating a high-performing, user-friendly platform that effectively showcases ReSoil®'s innovative solutions.

Context

This challenge arises in the context of modernizing and optimizing ReSoil®’s digital presence to align with its mission of promoting innovative, sustainable soil remediation technologies. As ReSoil® continues to expand its reach in the global market, the website plays a crucial role as a primary communication and engagement platform for potential clients, partners, and stakeholders. However, the current site does not fully meet the expectations of modern users in terms of performance, visual appeal, and ease of navigation. To remain competitive and effectively communicate its value proposition, ReSoil® must enhance its SEO, branding, and usability, ensuring the website functions as a high-performing tool for showcasing solutions, generating leads, and fostering engagement. The challenge also reflects the broader need for seamless digital transformation, enabling ReSoil® to establish a stronger foothold in the industry while providing flexibility for future growth.

Connection to cross-cutting areas

This challenge is directly connected to digitalization as it focuses on transforming the ReSoil® website into a high-performing, data-driven platform that leverages modern tools like SEO, analytics, and responsive design to improve engagement and visibility. Additionally, it supports general sustainability by enhancing the digital promotion of ReSoil®’s innovative soil remediation technology, which contributes to environmental restoration and sustainable land use.

Input

The students will explore the critical role of digital optimization in driving business growth within the environmental technology sector, where visibility, credibility, and engagement are essential. They will gain insights into emerging SEO trends, such as voice search optimization, mobile-first indexing, and user behavior tracking, along with strategies for sustainability-focused branding to connect with eco-conscious audiences. Additionally, the team will learn about ReSoil®’s patented, zero-emission soil remediation technology, designed to address global soil contamination challenges, including complex pollution involving heavy metals and organic substances.

Soil pollution impacts several Sustainable Development Goals and contributes to severe health risks, such as respiratory and cardiovascular issues, leading to over 500,000 premature deaths annually. ReSoil® presents a scalable, innovative solution to tackle contaminated soils, transforming them into fertile ground for sustainable agriculture, particularly in urban settings. By commercializing this technology, the project aims to position ReSoil® as a leading remediation solution. Highlighting this transformation through impactful content, like documenting polluted garden soil turning into gardens for safe vegetable production, emphasizes the social and environmental impact of ReSoil®, fostering community connections, food security, and global sustainability awareness.

Expectations

We expect the solution to evolve into a comprehensive, user-focused digital platform that enhances ReSoil®'s visibility, engagement, and market positioning. The team should provide a well-documented strategy for SEO, performance analytics, and content integration, along with actionable recommendations for long-term scalability and maintenance. Additionally, we expect the team to demonstrate strong collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation, ensuring the solution aligns with ReSoil®’s mission of sustainability and technological advancement. Their work should also serve as a foundation for further digital initiatives, enabling ReSoil® to adapt to future trends effectively (i.e. user-friendly CMS, etc.).

Desired Team Profile

We seek a multidisciplinary team with expertise in web development, UX/UI design, content creation, and SEO optimization to enhance the ENVIT website. Ideal team members include front-end and back-end developers skilled in modern web technologies, UX/UI designers capable of crafting visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces, and SEO specialists with experience in improving search engine rankings and driving organic traffic. Additionally, content creators who can articulate ReSoil®’s innovative technology effectively and concisely are essential, with a bonus for those familiar with environmental science or soil remediation. A well-rounded team with strong collaboration skills and diverse perspectives will be crucial to delivering a comprehensive, impactful solution.

Additional Information

Before starting, all teams will be briefed on the competitive landscape of the environmental technology sector, highlighting the growing demand for sustainable soil remediation solutions. ReSoil®’s innovative, patented technology, which offers a zero-emission process for removing heavy metals and metalloids while preserving soil integrity, sets it apart from traditional methods like soil excavation or immobilization. Teams will also be informed about the current stage of website development, including plans to merge the existing site with a new domain and CMS. Additionally, the team must present a solution that incorporates emerging SEO trends, branding strategies, and the importance of digital presence in driving global commercialization of ReSoil®.
